Resource Conservation Commission’s Annual Waterway Cleanup

  • Highlands of Seminole Neighborhood Association (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Now that spring has arrived, and after a 1 year pandemic hiatus, it’s time again for the Resource Conservation Commission’s Annual Waterway Cleanup. This year’s cleanup is scheduled for next Saturday, April 10, from 9:00-11:00. As with previous cleanups in our neighborhood, the focus will be on the Yarmouth Creek north of McKee Rd. You may have noticed all the litter along the Yarmouth Creek (the creek running parallel to Yarmouth Greenway and intersecting PD). It sorely needs attention.

The cleanup consists of picking up trash that has found its way in or near the creek bed. Dan Pease is coordinating this clean-up this year. (Unfortunately, I'll be at a funeral. Not to worry, I'll be doing a waterway clean-up on my own before then.)

If you’d like to help for all or part of the time, please meet at Yarmouth Greenway just north of McKee Rd on Saturday (4/10) morning. You'll easily be able to find Dan - He'll be wearing a Iowa Hawkeye sweatshirt (with a yellow hood). Cleanup volunteers will be working their way toward the Capital City bike trail .. and possibly along the trail depending on the number of volunteers. If you join the cleanup in progress, just walk north along the creek or bike trail and look for Dan's bright yellow sweatshirt.

If you have work gloves, you might want to bring those along. The City is providing garbage bags and some gloves.

Children are welcome, but they must be accompanied by an adult. You're welcome to share this email with friends and neighbors if you'd like.

These cleanups help keep our neighborhoods clean and pollutants out of our waterways.

The Yarmouth Creek is a beautiful place early on a spring morning. I hope you will consider helping this year to keep it clean.

Diane Streck

A map and additional information is on the City's website: http://www.fitchburgwi.gov/2634/Waterway-Cleanups
